New Delhi, Oct 19 (NationPress) In a significant move, the Central Government has approved the release of Rs 1,950.80 crore to Karnataka and Maharashtra. Additionally, Rs 13,603.20 crore has been allocated to 27 States under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), along with Rs 2,189.28 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 15 States for the fiscal year 2025-26, according to an official announcement made on Sunday.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sanctioned the early release of Rs 1,950.80 crore as the second tranche of the central share from the SDRF for Karnataka and Maharashtra during 2025-26, as stated by the official.
The breakdown of the total aid reveals that Rs 384.40 crore is designated for Karnataka and Rs 1,566.40 crore for Maharashtra, aiming to offer immediate relief for those affected by severe rainfall and flooding during this year's southwest monsoon, the statement highlighted.
This year, the Centre has previously disbursed Rs 13,603.20 crore to 27 States from the SDRF and Rs 2,189.28 crore under the NDRF to 15 States, the official further mentioned.
Moreover, funds totaling Rs 4,571.30 crore have been released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 States and Rs 372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine States.
The Central Government has also extended comprehensive logistic support, which includes the deployment of necessary NDRF teams, Army units, and Air Force assistance to all states impacted by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.
This monsoon season witnessed the maximum deployment of 199 NDRF teams across 30 States/UTs for rescue and relief operations.
Earlier this month, a High-Level Committee led by Amit Shah approved Rs 707.97 crore in additional aid for Assam and Gujarat, which suffered from floods and landslides in 2024.
This assistance was allocated from the NDRF, with adjustments based on 50 percent of the opening balance available in the SDRF, according to the statement.
Of the total Rs 707.97 crore, Rs 313.69 crore is for Assam and Rs 394.28 crore for Gujarat.
The High-Level Committee also sanctioned Rs 903.67 crore for Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan under the NDRF for the expansion and modernization of fire services.
