Mumbai, Sep 25 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has formally requested Home Minister Amit Shah for significant aid from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to support farmers severely impacted by recent floods in the state.
This memorandum was co-signed by CM Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
“The Maharashtra government urgently requires maximum relief allocations from the NDRF to ensure adequate support for affected farmers and assist in restoring their livelihoods. Enhanced assistance from NDRF will aid in compensation for land damage, provide livelihood support for flood-affected families, assist with housing repairs, and help recover damaged properties. A comprehensive proposal outlining the assistance for flood-impacted agricultural areas is being forwarded to the Central government,” stated the Chief Minister.
CM Fadnavis expressed profound concern regarding the havoc wreaked by heavy rains and floods across numerous districts in Maharashtra, leading to unprecedented destruction of agricultural land and significantly affecting the livelihoods of countless farmers.
“Over 31 districts in Maharashtra have been impacted by persistent heavy rainfall and flooding. This continuous downpour has resulted in extensive crop destruction over vast areas, raising alarms within the farming community. The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) has allocated Rs 2,215 crore for immediate relief to farmers facing crop loss,” noted the CM in his memorandum.
He further mentioned that heavy rains are expected to persist in many districts until the late Kharif season (September 2025). So far, over 50 lakh hectares of agricultural land have suffered from crop damage, which may lead to further losses statewide.
Previously, during his visit to flood-affected villages in Marathwada on Wednesday, CM Fadnavis assured farmers that the state government stands firmly with them during this crisis.
“Every affected farmer will receive assistance, regardless of eligibility criteria, with aid set to be distributed before Diwali,” he declared.
He also emphasized that the government will provide all necessary support, especially in areas where cloudburst-like rains have caused river flooding, destroying crops and eroding fertile soil.
Additionally, the CM announced upcoming flood-control initiatives, including constructing protective walls, renovating existing barrages with modern gates, and building new barrages to manage sudden water inflows. Drone surveys and mobile photographs will be recognized as valid records for panchnama (damage assessment) in areas where physical access is unattainable.
