New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made a heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, urging him to allocate significant resources from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to assist farmers grappling with the repercussions of devastating floods and heavy rainfall across Maharashtra.

Following a detailed discussion with PM Modi in New Delhi, Fadnavis stated, "I have presented a memorandum outlining the current flood crisis in Maharashtra, detailing the extensive damage inflicted by the torrential rains and flooding. I have solicited his support for substantial aid through the NDRF."

The Chief Minister conveyed optimism regarding the Prime Minister's response, mentioning, "The Prime Minister has been very receptive and assured that the Central government will act promptly upon receiving our proposal. He has committed to extending all possible assistance to our state."

He clarified that there are currently no plans for PM Modi to visit the flood-affected regions in Maharashtra. However, he mentioned that Modi is expected to be in Maharashtra on October 8 and 9.

During this visit, the Prime Minister is anticipated to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport and the final phase of the Metro-3 underground corridor from Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli to Cuffe Parade.

Moreover, PM Modi is likely to launch various developmental projects ahead of the forthcoming local and civic body elections in Maharashtra.

The Chief Minister's meeting with PM Modi came just a day after he approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking substantial aid from the NDRF for farmers affected by this natural calamity.

At the same time, opposition parties in Maharashtra are pressing the state government to declare a wet drought and provide financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per hectare. Fadnavis emphasized to Home Minister Shah that the Maharashtra government requires maximum relief from the NDRF to adequately support affected farmers and restore their livelihoods.

"The maximum assistance from the NDRF will aid in mitigating land damage, providing livelihood support for families affected by floods, and assisting with the rehabilitation of damaged properties. We are preparing a comprehensive proposal for the Central government concerning the aid for flood-impacted agricultural lands," CM Fadnavis explained.

He expressed grave concern over the extensive damage caused by the heavy rains and flooding in numerous districts of Maharashtra, which has severely affected the livelihoods of millions of farmers statewide.

"Over 31 districts in Maharashtra are grappling with the aftermath of relentless heavy rains and floods. The continuous rainfall has led to widespread crop damage, sparking significant anxiety within the farming community. The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) has earmarked Rs 2,215 crore for immediate relief to farmers suffering from crop losses," he stated in his memorandum.

He also warned that heavy rains are expected to persist in several districts until the late Kharif season (September 2025).

"More than 50 lakh hectares of farmland have already been impacted by crop damage. The situation poses a risk of further crop losses in the state," he added.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister shared that he presented a proposal to the Prime Minister regarding the Maharashtra Defence Corridor.

"I informed the Prime Minister about the establishment of a defence manufacturing ecosystem in Maharashtra, which is set to boost the local economy and create jobs. We can complete this corridor in three segments: the first in Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; the second in Nashik and Dhule; and the third in Nagpur, Wardha, and Amravati," he noted.

CM Fadnavis also mentioned that he showcased the state government's vision to develop Gadchiroli into the country's new steel city, promoting green steel production there.
