Mumbai, Sep 24 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared on Wednesday that the state government is committed to extending every possible support to individuals, particularly farmers, severely impacted by the torrential rains and floods across various regions of Maharashtra.
He highlighted that these adverse weather conditions have inflicted significant damage on agricultural crops, livestock, homes, and businesses, urging the flood-affected populace to exercise patience during this challenging period.
“The state government will spare no effort in aiding those who have suffered due to the relentless rains,” he assured.
CM Fadnavis conducted visits to Nimgaon and Darfal Seena villages within the Madha taluka of Solapur district to evaluate the flood damage firsthand.
He engaged with residents of both villages and further inspected the rain-affected areas in Ujani of Ausa Taluka, Latur, where he communicated with farmers and assessed the destruction caused by the downpour.
His tour continued to Aurad Shahajani in Nilanga Taluka, Latur, where he interacted with local farmers and examined the rain damage.
He acknowledged the severe hardships faced by villagers due to the relentless rains and floods, pledging government assistance to all those impacted.
“Immediate aid has already commenced, and we are prioritizing support for farmers suffering losses due to the heavy rainfall. A fund of Rs 2,000 crore has been approved in our recent cabinet meeting as emergency relief for flood victims. Further assistance will also be allocated to the affected individuals in the future,” he elaborated.
“In Darfal village, the flooding has resulted in catastrophic damage, with excessive water altering the river's course, leading to the inundation of vast portions of the village and many homes. Consequently, residences, food supplies, agriculture, and livestock have suffered significant losses.
“The government will extend support for agriculture, households, and losses to food supplies. Additionally, comprehensive assistance will cover infrastructure, including roads, educational institutions, farms, and the electricity network. Separate support will be allocated for businesses impacted by these disasters,” stated Chief Minister Fadnavis.
Previously, the CM mentioned that the process of assessing damages is ongoing, and the government is committed to compensating for losses.
In response to the Opposition's call for a wet drought declaration, he reassured that the government would not abandon farmers and would ensure fair compensation. CM Fadnavis indicated that a proposal for additional assistance would be submitted to the central government while affirming the state has already begun providing immediate help.
