Mumbai, Sep 23 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Tuesday that the heavy rains and subsequent floods have led to eight fatalities and left ten injured, with many individuals stranded across Marathwada and other regions of the state.
Following a Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister instructed district administrations to carry out 'panchnamas' (damage assessments) due to the 975.5 mm of rainfall, which continues to affect Marathwada and its neighboring districts.
He confirmed that the state government will extend financial assistance to farmers impacted by this natural disaster.
"Rescue operations are currently underway in Dharashiv. I am discussing the possibility of deploying additional helicopters for relief efforts. To date, the Maharashtra government has sanctioned the disbursement of Rs 2,215 crore to farmers affected by heavy rainfall since May; Rs 1,829 crore has already been credited to farmers' bank accounts, with the remainder to follow within the next eight days. Additionally, we will provide further financial support to farmers in Marathwada and surrounding areas affected by the ongoing rain," the Chief Minister stated.
He emphasized that District Collectors are empowered to assist during natural disasters.
Furthermore, district guardian ministers have been instructed to visit the impacted areas on Wednesday to enhance relief and rescue operations.
The Chief Minister plans to visit the rain-hit districts personally to oversee relief efforts.
While refraining from naming anyone, he suggested that some political parties might attempt to leverage this situation for political gain.

Previously, former Union Agriculture Minister and NCP-SP President Sharad Pawar called on the Maharashtra government to expedite panchnamas and provide prompt financial assistance to farmers who have suffered extensive losses due to flooding, which has devastated crops, livestock, and property.
Pawar's appeal comes as over 26 lakh hectares of Kharif crops across the state have been ruined.
Farmers from Solapur, Latur, Dharashiv, Jalna, Parbhani, and Ahilyanagar have been severely impacted.
He stated, "Heavy rainfall in a typically drought-prone district has had a significant effect on farmers. The soybean crop, typically reliable, has rotted due to excessive water, leaving farmers devastated. I've witnessed droughts, but never such severe rainfall before."
"In times of crisis, it's the duty of both state and central governments to support farmers. The state must act swiftly to conduct panchnamas and offer compensation. The Centre can also provide aid to states facing natural disasters. The state should seek assistance from the central government, in addition to providing its own financial support," Pawar added.
He highlighted the need for compensation for crop loss, livestock, and land that has been completely washed away.
"While losing a crop affects only that year, if the soil is washed away, it halts crop production indefinitely. Therefore, assistance must cover both crops and land damaged by waterlogging. Additionally, roads have been destroyed and aid must be allocated for those repairs. There have been reports of livestock being swept away. The state government needs to address these issues expeditiously," he concluded.
