Amitabh Bachchan revealed on Friday, 19 June that he spent the entire night sleepless, consumed by the thought that a piece of work he had completed could have been executed better. The veteran actor, who regularly updates fans through his personal blog and social media posts, shared the candid admission on X (formerly Twitter), offering a rare window into the perfectionist mindset that has defined his six-decade career.

In a post on X, Bachchan wrote in Hindi: 'Bas yunhi, kaam ke kuch kshan!! Jo kiya tha, mujhe laga aur achha ho sakta hai, anumati mil gayi, so dubara kar diya, ab pata nahin achha hua ki nahin. Ye to woh hi batayenge. Issi soch mein abhi tak soya nahin, aur subah ho gayi. Ef ko badhai aur sneh.'

Translated, the post reads: 'Just like that, a few moments of work!! What I had done, I felt it could have been done even better. Permission was granted, so I did it again. Now I do not know whether it turned out better or not. They themselves will tell. Lost in this very thought, I have not slept yet, and morning has arrived. Congratulations and affection to Ef.'

'EF' refers to Bachchan's 'Extended Family' — his term for his devoted fan community, whom he addresses directly and consistently through his online posts.

A Pattern of Perfectionism

This is not the first time the megastar has publicly reflected on his exacting standards. The actor has previously spoken about his relentless pursuit of craft improvement and his reluctance to settle for work he considers below his own benchmark. Just two days earlier, on 17 June, Bachchan had shared a separate reflection on time, writing: 'So much to do and so little time in the 24 hrs .. a day should be extended to 36 hrs .. !!! and the philosophy of life says that when that happens it shall be asked extend to 48 hrs ..' He accompanied this with a Hindi line — 'Anavarat samay ki chakki chalti jaati hai!' ('The millstone of time keeps moving endlessly!') — before signing off with a playful note about watching football.

Bachchan is reportedly preparing for a new season of his long-running quiz reality show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati', which has made him a fixture in Indian primetime television for over two decades.
