Los Angeles, March 20 (NationPress) Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett believes that Hollywood’s most prestigious award ceremonies should revert to a non-televised format.
During her guest appearance on Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang's Las Culturistas podcast, the discussion turned to the intrusive nature of social media and smartphones.
Blanchett expressed her sentiments, saying, “There are so few places left that provide privacy. That’s what I cherished about the late ’80s, attending dance parties in Sydney for Mardi Gras. People were simply there.”
“They were fully engaged, enjoying each other’s company. It was a joyful atmosphere. There were no recordings, and no one was concerned about what anyone else was doing.”
The conversation transitioned to the myriad of celebrity irritations at award ceremonies, including photographers and “lip readers,” as reported by variety.com.
“Lip readers?” Blanchett inquired.
The hosts elaborated that a portion of social media focuses on interpreting celebrities’ lip movements during private conversations on red carpets.
“That’s really, what? I mean, do something productive. Learn Ikebana or another skill that is genuinely beautiful,” Blanchett remarked.
“I mean, I know it sounds radical, but I wish we could return to the days when these events weren’t broadcasted. Let’s bring that back and simply enjoy a fantastic party where everyone can unwind.”
She went on to say, “The fashion is stunning, and all that jazz. We’ll eventually find out who won or lost. However, how wonderful would it be if that all occurred behind closed doors? A completely different evening.”
Recently, the actress revealed that she doesn’t possess many photographs from her wedding to Andrew Upton, but she treasures the memories.
While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote her upcoming thriller Black Bag, the 55-year-old actress explained why there is only a single photo from her 1997 wedding, according to People magazine.
“When I tied the knot, which feels like eons ago, 27 years ago,” Blanchett began before being sidetracked by a recent picture of herself and Upton, 59, displayed on the studio screen.
The Australian actress continued, “I’m still happily married after 27 years. Back when we wed, we were utterly broke. We didn’t have a photographer, just a couple of friends who dabbled in photography.”
“One of them got so intoxicated that he forgot to load film into his camera, and the other had such a great time that he didn’t capture any photos, resulting in just one picture from our wedding,” she recounted to Barrymore, 50.
She then described the sole wedding photo they have, which is “a fuzzy image of us getting into the car, but I truly remember the night vividly as a result.”
