Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has opened up about what drew him to his upcoming survival film 'Heart of the Beast', saying the bond between a man and his dog at the heart of the story left a deep emotional impression on him. The film is set to release in cinemas across India on 25 September 2026.

The Story at the Centre

Directed by David Ayer, 'Heart of the Beast' follows Special Forces officer James Belmont, played by Pitt, and his combat dog, Odin, after a devastating plane crash strands them in the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling brutal conditions and fighting for survival, the two rely on each other in ways that go far beyond the professional bond of soldier and service animal.

The film also stars Anna Lambe and JK Simmons, and is written by Cameron Alexander. It is produced by Paramount Pictures in association with Domain Entertainment and Gulfstream Pictures.

What Brad Pitt Said

Pitt described his reaction to reading the script as immediate and visceral. 'When I first picked up the script for this movie, I read it and it just really, really moved me. That bond between human and dog, dog and human, it's something quite incredible,' he said.

He was equally candid about the film's deeper emotional register. 'This is on its surface a survival movie but underneath its surface it's a love story. The experience cemented what I know to be true about our relationship with dogs, and their relationship with us. It's that intense loyalty and their love is unconditional. We are less alone in the world, because of our dogs,' Pitt added.

A Reunion with David Ayer

Part of Pitt's draw to the project was the chance to reunite with director David Ayer, with whom he previously collaborated on the acclaimed World War II film 'Fury'. The two share a working shorthand that, according to Pitt, contributed to the emotional authenticity the film aims for.

Ayer described the central relationship in the film with equal conviction: 'James and Odin never give up on each other. They would sacrifice themselves in a heartbeat for the other.'

The Cast and Creative Team

Actor JK Simmons, who plays a character named Watkins, said he was 'absolutely absorbed by these characters,' adding, 'There's a deep, deep heart in this movie.' The film is produced by Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen, David Ayer, and Brad Pitt, with an extended list of executive producers including Damien Chazelle and Scott Lumpkin, among others.
