Veteran actor Ramakant Daayama, best known for his role in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chak De! India, passed away on 26 May, leaving the entertainment fraternity and his loved ones in mourning. The actor had reportedly been unwell for several months prior to his passing.

Shubhangi Latkar's Heartfelt Tribute

Actress Shubhangi Latkar, a close friend of the late actor, took to social media to share an emotional tribute alongside a video capturing Daayama in a joyful moment at a gathering — singing, dancing, and laughing with friends.

In her post, Latkar wrote: 'Today, we lost a truly beautiful soul… and I am simply speechless.' She described him as 'not just a dear friend and family friend' but someone she 'deeply admired and respected' — calling him 'a spontaneous dancer, a soulful singer, a brilliant actor, and a wise advisor whose words always carried meaning.'

Latkar also reflected on his quiet courage: 'He may have looked tiny in appearance, but he was one of the strongest and most courageous people I have known.'

Unfinished Plans and a Lasting Bond

Latkar revealed that the two had planned to collaborate on a Hindi stage play and a poetry presentation — projects that will now remain unrealised. 'When I requested him, he smiled and said, "Let me get well soon,"' she recalled. 'That dream, too, now remains unfinished.'

Ending her tribute, she wrote: 'You will be deeply missed, Ramakant ji. Your warmth, your courage, your art, and your beautiful spirit will always remain alive in our hearts.'

CINTAA Mourns the Loss

The Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) also issued a formal condolence, remembering Daayama as a 'respected former Executive Committee Member and a cherished part of our fraternity.' The association's statement noted that 'his dedication, wisdom, and contribution to the artist community will always be remembered with deep respect and gratitude,' adding that he leaves behind 'a legacy of integrity, warmth, and service that touched countless lives within the industry.'

A Career Spanning Film, Television, and Theatre

Ramakant Daayama built a distinguished career across films, television, and stage over several decades. His notable credits include Chak De! India (2007) and the critically acclaimed film Dhanak, alongside numerous theatre productions. He was also the father of actress and social media influencer Yashaswini Dayama, and the father-daughter duo were often seen together on social media.

With his passing, the industry loses a performer whose contributions spanned multiple mediums — and whose warmth, by all accounts, extended well beyond the stage and screen.
