Is Chetan Hansraj Leading India’s Charge with ‘Kaal Nagari,’ the Nation’s First AI-Generated Series?

Mumbai, June 24 (NationPress) TV actor Chetan Hansraj discussed his latest venture, “Kaal Nagari,” describing it as a transformative step for Indian entertainment.

Being the nation’s inaugural AI-generated series, this project represents a bold and pioneering initiative that highlights India’s advancing expertise in utilizing state-of-the-art technology for storytelling. Hansraj expressed his pride in being part of a groundbreaking endeavor that sets a new standard without relying on Western influences.

Reflecting on the inception of the idea, Chetan remarked, “People have always said, ‘Someday we’ll create something like this.’ We didn’t just dream it—we made it a reality. We’ve placed India on the international stage for AI-generated content. We didn’t want to wait for America to take the lead and then follow; we decided, ‘Let’s do it ourselves.’”

The 'Brahmarakshas' star also shared that “Kaal Nagari” was accomplished in a mere two and a half months by a compact and energetic team of 8–9 young professionals, all in their twenties. Fueled by passion and commitment, the team dedicated themselves to bringing the project to fruition within a remarkably short period.

The series is set in a fictional, futuristic city where a journalist, a detective, and a principled police officer unite to confront a formidable crime syndicate that instills fear and control over the city. “We envisioned what Bombay could look like 30–40 years in the future,” Chetan elaborated. “What if a gang seized control of an entire city? That’s how the universe of Kaal Nagari came to be. The characters arrived to us as if they were sent from above.”

Discussing initial hurdles, the actor noted, “At first, we were overwhelmed. Nothing was falling into place. But then we figured one thing out after another—and suddenly, everything began to align. We had to reshoot numerous scenes during the first month. It was challenging, but once we got it right, the process became seamless.”

The 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' actor also mentioned that Kaal Nagari distinguishes itself from traditional AI projects by delivering complete performances—capturing every gesture, expression, and emotion through advanced digital mapping. His own performance was translated onto a virtual character, ensuring that the storytelling maintained its human essence while being driven by innovative technology.

He also addressed the ongoing discussion around AI and job security within the industry. Rather than displacing artists, Chetan believes AI is generating new possibilities. The series has offered opportunities to emerging talent who had previously not received a chance. Looking ahead, the team plans to involve non-actors—scanning their likeness, compensating them, and converting them into digital performers.
