Chris Hemsworth's Regret Over Shark Attacks in Australia
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Feb 25 (NationPress) Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth has voiced his concerns about relocating back to his homeland of Australia following a spate of fatal shark attacks occurring close to his residence.
The Thor actor, aged 42, was raised in Australia but spent several years in the United States before returning to his native land in 2015 with his wife Elsa Pataky and their children. However, he now admits he feels he may have made a significant error after two surfers lost their lives to shark attacks just minutes from his home in Byron Bay, according to reports by ‘Female First UK’.
In a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast, he shared, "When I initially settled in Byron Bay, there was a series of shark attacks resulting in two fatalities, and one individual survived, all within a two-week timeframe. One attack happened right in front of my house, and another occurred just ten minutes south of me, with another five minutes north. I was left wondering, 'What have I done? Where have I moved to? This is insane'. Consequently, I only went surfing when there were others in the water."
He also recounted, "Your odds improve a bit. There was a time when helicopters were frequently patrolling the coastline to spot sharks, with a siren sounding due to a feeding frenzy. The police would come down with loudspeakers urging everyone to exit the water. We all sat there hesitating, thinking, 'No way we're getting out', until eventually, we all paddled back in. The predominant species were bull sharks and great whites."
Despite these dangers, Chris is determined not to let the threat of shark attacks deter him from his passion for surfing. He noted, "I surf every day. I heard that more people in America meet their demise shaking a vending machine for chocolate that collapses on them. Not sure if that's true, though."
Additionally, the actor revealed that his property is home to a large number of snakes, which his three children are unfazed by. However, his friend Matt Damon had quite a fright during his initial visit to Australia.
Chris remarked, "We see many snakes around the house, particularly pythons. Fortunately, pythons are territorial and help keep the more dangerous ones away. We actually like having pythons around. My kids occasionally grab them by the tail. Matt Damon was quite curious before visiting Australia, and I assured him he’d be fine. But on his first day here, he stepped right onto a snake after getting out of his car. I've lived here for 42 years and never encountered a snake. Day one for him. What a rookie mistake!"
