Composers RUUH and JOH, Offspring of ‘I’m a Disco Dancer’ Icon Vijay Benedict, Create Waves

Mumbai, Dec 13 (NationPress) The music composing duo RUUH and JOH, known for their love track ‘Gumshudah’ from the popular streaming show ‘Mismatched’, have disclosed that their father, Vijay Benedict, is the voice behind the legendary song ‘I’m a Disco Dancer’ from the movie ‘Disco Dancer’, which starred Mithun Chakraborty.
The siblings have also composed music for the acclaimed series ‘Call Me Bae’, featuring Ananya Panday.
Reflecting on their musical lineage, the duo expressed, “We always strive to create something unique, experimenting with various sounds and drawing inspiration from our surroundings. Coming from a lineage where music is integral, we have greatly been influenced by our father, Vijay Benedict, a distinguished Bollywood playback singer known for his hits like ‘I’m a Disco Dancer’ in the 1980s. While his musical legacy guides us, we prefer not to work with predetermined briefs or references; instead, we aim to produce something fresh and original.”
In discussing the inspiration behind the track, RUUH shared, “My brother and I had written the song long before we were connected to ‘Mismatched’. It was a piece we wanted to share with the world because we believed in its potential and the fresh sound it offered. Remarkably, the showrunners of ‘Mismatched’ discovered the track; they had no prior knowledge of us, yet they loved it.”
“They informed us that they had sifted through over a hundred songs without finding a suitable match for a specific scene, and upon hearing ‘Gumshudah’, they immediately knew it was the ideal fit. They utilized it as is, without any alterations or briefs, just pure vibes. I even traveled to Jaipur to witness the scene being filmed, and it was an amazing experience,” he added.
‘Gumshudah’ has quickly ascended to become a trend on social media. In the meantime, ‘Mismatched 3’ is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
