What Happened Between Kevin Costner and His Producers?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, December 23 (NationPress) Hollywood star Kevin Costner and the producers of his forthcoming Western film ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2’ have found themselves embroiled in a legal dispute over an alleged breach of contract.
A costume rental company that supplied costumes for Costner's film is suing the actor and the production team, seeking more than $400,000, as reported by People magazine.
The complaint, lodged in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on December 22, claims that Costner, 70, and his co-defendants—including various entities involved with ‘Horizon: An American Saga’—entered into an agreement with the Western Costume Leasing Company to provide essential costumes.
According to the reports, the lawsuit states that Costner and his associates did not fulfill their payment obligations for the costumes, accumulating a debt of $134,256.82.
The legal filing asserts that the producers did not challenge the receipt of the costumes or their quality, as detailed in the complaint.
Moreover, it is alleged that the costumes were utilized in the film, yet the producers neglected to settle multiple invoices. The lawsuit demands over $350,000 in damages, which includes the $134,256.82 in unpaid rentals and $150,000 for economic losses.
The Western Costume Leasing Company is also pursuing $200,000 in legal fees and $40,000 in accumulated interest on the outstanding invoices. Additionally, the lawsuit seeks $100,000 in punitive damages and any further relief deemed appropriate by the court, according to the filed documents.
‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2’ represents the second chapter in Costner's Western film saga, which features a cast including Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, and others. Following a lackluster box office performance of Chapter 1, the release of Chapter 2 was postponed.
Nevertheless, it was screened at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2025 and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February. Chapter 1 ultimately gained traction once it became available on streaming platforms.
