Los Angeles, May 2 (NationPress) Hollywood star Jeremy Renner has chosen not to participate in “Hawkeye 2” due to a pay cut following his serious snow plow accident.
Renner opened up about the financial terms for a possible sequel to Marvel's Hawkeye. In a TikTok snippet from his interview with the High Performance app, he mentioned he was offered “half” of what he earned during the first season of the Disney+ show, where he portrayed the lead character.
“They approached me for season 2 and proposed a salary that was half of what I made before,” the 54-year-old actor stated, as reported by people.com.
“I thought, ‘It’s going to require me to work twice as hard for half the pay, occupying about eight months of my life for that reduced salary.’”
The initial season of Hawkeye, featuring Renner as Clint Barton alongside Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, premiered in 2021, and a second season is still unverified.
Renner humorously suggested that the reason for the reduced offer could be his near-fatal snowmobile incident on New Year's Day of 2023.
“I’m like, ‘Excuse me? Did you assume I’m only half the Jeremy I used to be because I had an accident? Maybe that’s why you decided to cut my pay in half,’” he joked.
“I told them to go fly a kite,” Renner expressed regarding the “insulting offer.”
He hinted that he would “still love” to reprise his role as Hawkeye, saying, “It’s disheartening that this didn’t materialize, but I’m okay with it. My body is likely thankful for not having to endure that right now.”
Renner faced a near-fatal incident when he was nearly crushed by his 14,000-pound Snowcat plow outside his Lake Tahoe home, resulting in over 35 broken bones, numerous titanium implants, and a challenging rehabilitation process.
