Is Deepak Parashar the Last of the 'Old School' Actors in Today's Cinema?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 8 (NationPress) Renowned actor Deepak Parashar expresses his views on being old school in the current cinematic landscape during an exclusive discussion with IANS.
When asked, "What are your thoughts on the evolving dynamics of the film industry, especially with senior actors taking on diverse roles in today's cinema and OTT platforms?"
Parashar remarked on the deficiency of quality content in the entertainment sector today.
He reflected, "In many ways, I embody an old-fashioned mindset. I recall my early days when I was crowned the first Mr. India in 1976, with Poonam Dillon as Miss Delhi; the aura of glamour back then was quite distinct compared to now. Nowadays, I’ve observed that the film industry is gradually losing substantial content."
Discussing the industry's future amid digitalization and the rise of AI, he added, "Digitalization is underway, and there are predictions that AI will dominate everything, leaving me uncertain about the future of cinema."
During the conversation with IANS, Parashar also addressed actress Deepika Padukone's proposal for an eight-hour workday, stating it would not benefit smaller actors.
He emphasized the lack of support from top stars for struggling artists, saying, “That’s why Deepika Padukone highlighted her stance on not working over eight hours and ensuring artists who are pregnant receive leave. She did bring up this important issue.”
Nonetheless, Parashar noted that such matters do not affect leading actors.
“Most prominent figures face no issues, whether financial or regarding time and survival. The challenges faced by lesser-known actors are often overlooked because everything revolves around their demands. They are the driving force,” he elaborated.
