Mumbai, June 16 (NationPress) The recent call by actress Deepika Padukone for an 8-hour working shift following the birth of her daughter Dua has sparked an intense debate within the industry regarding the working conditions for actresses after motherhood.
Actress Chitrangda Singh weighed in on the matter, stating that it largely hinges on the relationship an actor has with their director and producer.
In a conversation with IANS, Chitrangda remarked, "This revolves around the personal dynamics between an actor's comprehension of the director's vision and the producer's demands. If it's feasible, they will certainly find a way. However, there are often limitations—time constraints, budget restrictions, and scheduling conflicts—which can make it challenging. It's crucial that we acknowledge this reality since, in this industry, time equates to money, and everyone is investing in the project."
She added, "Ultimately, it’s an individual’s decision, and Deepika is a prominent actress with the right to make her own choices; it’s her privilege to do so."
For context, Deepika was replaced by Triptii Dimri in the highly anticipated drama Spirit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga after she allegedly proposed several working conditions as a new mother.
Reports indicate that Deepika requested eight-hour shifts, an increase in her pay, and a share of the film's profits. Additionally, she reportedly declined to deliver her lines in Telugu, preferring to have them dubbed.
Deepika and her husband Ranveer Singh welcomed their first child, a daughter, on September 8, 2024.
Meanwhile, Chitrangda recently starred in Tarun Mansukhani's Housefull 5, sharing the screen with Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Riteish Deshmukh, Sonam Bajwa, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, and Fardeen Khan.
The fifth installment of the Housefull franchise hit theaters on June 6.
