Mumbai, January 24 (NationPress) - Renowned Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone recently reminisced in an interview with Lehren TV about her debut film Om Shanti Om. She expressed her gratitude towards filmmaker Farah Khan for recognizing a certain charm in her that echoed the elegance of classic Hindi cinema actresses.
During the interview, Deepika stated, “I believe Farah sensed that I possess a style reminiscent of vintage actresses. If you watch the song, you can observe my hand movements, which reflect the grace of those heroines from the past. I think Farah felt that I embody a bit of that old-world charm.”
She further explained that this understanding likely allowed Farah to focus less on her body language and character nuances, particularly in her portrayal of the retro Bollywood star, Shantipriya.
Deepika also shared her personal efforts in studying legendary actresses such as Hema Malini, Madhubala, and Vyjayanthimala to grasp their poise and screen presence. “I carefully watched their films and tried to incorporate some of their essence,” Deepika remarked.
On discussing her appearance in the film, Deepika clarified that she didn't emulate any specific actress. “There are no direct imitations of various actresses. My look is purely inspired by the 70s; we haven’t copied any old Indian star,” she clarified.
Additionally, she reminisced about extensive discussions with renowned designer Manish Malhotra, along with Bharat and Doris, prior to the shooting of Om Shanti Om. They spent numerous days perfecting hairstyles and costume designs, stating, “We were thoroughly prepared before filming began.”
Reflecting on Om Shanti Om, the film marked Deepika Padukone's entry into Bollywood.
Directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan under the Red Chillies Entertainment banner, Om Shanti Om was released on November 9, 2007.
The film featured Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role alongside Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, and Kirron Kher in significant roles.
Upon its release, Om Shanti Om became a massive box office hit, ranking among the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year 2007.
The film's soundtrack, crafted by Vishal-Shekhar, significantly contributed to its fame, with hits like ‘Main Agar Kahoon’, ‘Ajab Si’, ‘Dard-E-Disco’, ‘Deewangi Deewangi’, ‘Daastaan-E-Om Shanti Om’, and ‘Aankhon Mein Teri’ still celebrated as chart-toppers today.
