Los Angeles, Oct 26 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Demi Moore has opened up about her time filming with the iconic Tom Cruise in ‘A Few Good Men’, sharing a memorable anecdote from the set.
In a recent discussion with screenwriter Jia Tolentino at the New Yorker Festival, the actress speculated that her co-star might have felt "embarrassed" about her pregnancy during the film's pre-production phase, as reported by People magazine.
Moore revealed that she was nearly eight months pregnant while rehearsing lines with director Rob Reiner and co-star Cruise, 63. At that time, she was expecting her second child, Scout Willis. She stated, “I think Tom was quite embarrassed. I felt okay about it, though. I was moving around, but I could sense he thought it was a bit awkward.”
Moore, who is also a mother to Rumer and Tallulah Willis from her marriage to Bruce Willis, further elaborated that she believes Cruise may have felt uneasy since many of their Hollywood contemporaries were not having children then, largely due to the societal pressure of choosing between career aspirations and motherhood.
“It's one of the many things that I felt didn’t make sense. I challenged that notion, asking, ‘Why not? Why can’t you have both?’ However, I think this came with a lot of pressure I placed on myself to prove that it was achievable,” she shared.
‘A Few Good Men’ is adapted from Aaron Sorkin’s 1989 play of the same name, which revolves around two U.S. Marines accused of murdering a fellow Marine. Moore admitted to becoming “a bit of an overachiever” in her quest to convincingly balance motherhood with her acting career.
“Looking back, I think, ‘What was I thinking?’ and what was I trying to prove? It wasn’t as supported then as it is now. You know, breastfeeding while blocking and rehearsing a scene,” she added.
