Mumbai, Jan 15 (NationPress) Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, known for his highly successful Dil-Luminati tour, has released a series of images from his forthcoming film ‘Punjab '95’.
The actor shared these images on his Instagram on Wednesday, showcasing his character at various points throughout the narrative.
The initial image captures him in a prison setting, eyes shut, engulfed in harsh lighting. Other images depict him outside the prison, engrossed in reading newspapers and important documents.
Diljit also announced that the film's teaser will be unveiled on January 17, coinciding with the release of Kangana Ranaut's directorial venture 'Emergency'. Notably, both films explore themes related to former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It was under her orders that Operation Blue Star was conducted to eliminate Khalistani militants from the Golden Temple in Amritsar, leading to her assassination and a subsequent pursuit of Khalistani terrorists in Punjab, culminating in the events of Punjab '95.
‘Punjab '95’ centers around the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
Another image offers a glimpse into Khalra's personal life, featuring Diljit as Khalra, alongside two children, providing a poignant insight into the activist's genuine journey.
During the militancy era in Punjab, Jaswant Singh Khalra served as the director of a bank in Amritsar. Following Operation Blue Star, Indira Gandhi's assassination, and the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots, police were granted extensive powers to detain individuals, often under the guise of suspected terrorism.
Authorities faced allegations of executing unarmed individuals in staged encounters and incinerating numerous corpses to conceal the murders. Khalra was actively investigating four significant cases and persistently gathered evidence and testimonies.
The Central Board of Film Certification in India suggested 120 cuts to the film during the production process. Due to its sensitive subject matter, the film's release was uncertain. However, with Diljit’s soaring popularity and global recognition, it appears that the film will finally debut.
In the meantime, Diljit recently had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital.
Expressing his enthusiasm on X, Diljit described the encounter as a promising start to 2025, revealing that their discussion covered a range of topics, including music.
