Los Angeles, April 24 (NationPress) The director of the sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer "persisted fervently" in her efforts to entice actress Sarah Michelle Gellar back for the follow-up film.

Writer and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson revealed that she did everything possible to persuade Gellar to reprise her role, but they could not overcome the obstacle that her character, Helen Shivers, met her demise in the original film, according to 'Female First UK'.

Jennifer shared with Entertainment Weekly, "I tried, alright? I harassed her! But she is dead. I even pitched some wild ideas. I said, 'What if it’s like you weren’t dead and you’re actually alive, but in hiding?' And Sarah responded, 'I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.' I countered, 'Yeah, but what if?' And she insisted, 'I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.'"

Nonetheless, Sarah Michelle’s original co-stars, her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, are set to return for the sequel.

According to 'Female First UK', the film also features Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Billy Campbell, and Gabbriette.

Previously, Sarah Michelle expressed that she would not be returning but promised to assist on set.

She told People magazine, "I am dead. My best friend [Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity. I’m always the one saying, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters', so I do have somewhat of an unofficial job title."

"Jen has assembled an incredible cast, and I’m thrilled and excited for all of them. I will be there with moral support behind the camera," she concluded.
