Michelle Pfeiffer Takes a Leap of Faith for 'The Madison' Without Reading the Script

Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 15 (NationPress) Acclaimed Hollywood star Michelle Pfeiffer has disclosed that she took a chance on starring in 'The Madison' without first reviewing the script for the series.
The 67-year-old actress portrays family matriarch Stacy Clyburn in Paramount+'s neo-Western series. She made the decision to embark on this journey based on creator Taylor Sheridan's impressive history with successful shows like Yellowstone and Tulsa King, as reported by 'Female First UK'.
In her conversation with 'Variety', she shared, "Taylor approached me, presenting an idea and suggesting we meet. I traveled to Texas, visited his ranch, and had a delightful evening connecting with others. He outlined the character's arc and the show's general concept, which was quite broad."
"I asked, 'When can I read the script?'. He replied, 'I’d like to know who I'm writing for before I start, so it’ll be after your commitment.' After some back-and-forth discussions over a few weeks, I realized I had to either take a leap of faith or step back, and I chose to take that leap, given his strong track record," she added.
According to 'Female First UK', early episodes of 'The Madison' depict Pfeiffer's character coping with the loss of her husband, Preston Clyburn. She acknowledged the challenge of portraying such an emotionally intense character without allowing it to overwhelm her personal life.
She remarked, "I don't see myself as a method actor; I find that quite tiring and uninteresting. I enjoy life too. I love my work, but I don’t want to sacrifice my personal life for my profession. However, my husband, David E. Kelley, mentioned that I do tend to disappear a bit when I’m working, which I hadn’t realized. I thought it was just fatigue."
"Fortunately, this role was manageable because the first season unfolds over just six days, and she remains in a similar emotional state throughout. You sort of settle into that mindset. I wasn’t sobbing over the weekend or anything, but the emotional weight was always subtly present," she explained.
Nonetheless, Michelle relished the opportunity to reunite with Russell, with whom she developed a strong connection while filming the 1988 movie Tequila Sunrise.
She expressed, "He became my ally. He was my protector, confidant, and a source of laughter, bringing immense joy to the set daily. Our chemistry on screen was just effortless."
