Divyenndu on true 'Glory': sleeping peacefully after work, no screen embarrassment
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 30 — Actor Divyenndu has articulated his personal definition of success in an entertainment industry often consumed by metrics and public perception. For the 42-year-old, professional fulfilment begins with the ability to view his own performances without discomfort.
Speaking to IANS, Divyenndu prioritised creative integrity over external validation. "I guess doing the kind of work I am happy doing, if people appreciate it, that would be nice. If I can do something, go back home, sleep peacefully and happily, see myself on screen and not get embarrassed, I think that's a good start for me," he said.
From Pyaar Ka Punchnama to Mirzapur breakthrough
Divyenndu's breakout arrived with the 2011 comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama, where he portrayed Nishant Liquid Aggarwal, a volatile, outspoken character navigating romantic setbacks. Subsequent film roles in Chashme Baddoor and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha built his resume, but it was his portrayal of the tragic gangster Munna Bhaiya in the web series Mirzapur that catapulted him to widespread recognition.
Focus on craft over industry noise
Divyenndu, recently lauded for his work in The Railway Men, cautioned against the distractions endemic to show business. "Rest, I don't really think too much about seeing so much in the industry. People think all of that, and there is too much noise around the art we are here to create. We should focus on that. The rest can be handled. But if the core is not right, the exterior can never look right," he stated.
This philosophy underscores his approach: artistic foundation must precede public reception. Without a strong core, he argues, surface-level success becomes hollow.
Upcoming projects: Glory and Mirzapur film
Divyenndu will next appear in the boxing-centred web series Glory, which explores the brutal ecosystem surrounding the sport. The narrative opens with the mysterious death of Nihal Singh, India's Olympic boxing medal prospect. The ensemble cast includes Pulkit Samrat, Suvinder Vicky, Jannat Zubair, Ashutosh Rana, Sikandar Kher, Kunal Thakur, Sayani Gupta, Yashpal Sharma, and Kashmira Pardeshi.
On the film front, Divyenndu will reprise his role in Mirzapur: The Movie, slated for release on 4 September. The film centres on Akhandanand "Kaleen" Tripathi, a crime boss and businessman who dominates the Mirzapur district in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. The transition from series to cinema marks a significant expansion of the franchise, which has built a substantial audience base since its debut.
