Mumbai, March 30 (NationPress) Actor and filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran has expressed his thoughts on the concept of stardom, emphasizing that individuals can only strive to be skilled actors or excel in their respective cinematic disciplines.
“No one actually becomes a star. The only thing you can pursue is to become a better actor or to master the craft you are involved in. All other aspects are external. It's the audience that assigns you labels and perceives you as a star, but that perception is external to who you are,” he stated.
He further noted that “inside yourself, stardom does not exist.”
“Internally, you should always aim to surpass the version of yourself from yesterday. If during an extended period in your career you do not feel challenged—perhaps even intimidated by the demands of your role as an actor or technician—then you might not be on the right path,” he remarked.
Prithviraj elaborated: “Thus, all the elements such as stardom, influence, and recognition exist outside of your true self. When you are in tune with yourself, it's just about your passion, your craft, and the extent to which you can push your own limits. That's all there is.”
His latest project is L2: Empuraan, an action thriller that he both directed and starred in. This film is the second chapter of the Lucifer trilogy, continuing the storyline from its predecessor, Lucifer.
The cast includes Mohanlal, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Andrea Tivadar, Jerome Flynn, Indrajith Sukumaran, Eriq Ebouaney, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
Initially intended as a three-part series, the success of the first film prompted the green light for the sequel. L2: Empuraan was announced in June 2019, with production initially slated for mid-2020, but faced delays due to the pandemic.
The film premiered in theaters on March 27.
