Chennai, June 14 (NationPress) Actress Keerthi Pandiyan, the lead in director Uday K's upcoming project 'Akkenam', urged audiences on Saturday to refrain from labeling the film as a women-centric narrative. She emphasized that while the protagonist is a woman, the story holds significance for all.
At the audio and trailer unveiling of 'Akkenam', the actress, who shares screen space with her father Arun Pandiyan, remarked, "I questioned the director on why he approached this story from a female viewpoint. He explained that his mother was the strongest woman in his life, influencing his perspective for the narrative."
However, the actress stressed that this film is not exclusively for women.
"This is neither a women-centric film nor one solely aimed at women. It narrates a character's experiences and how they navigate and triumph over challenges, applicable to anyone, regardless of gender," she clarified.
Keerthi also shared that she portrays a cab driver in the film, stating, "I enjoy driving, and playing a cab driver was a joy for me. If I weren't an actress, I believe I would have pursued racing."
Reflecting on how the project came to be, she recounted, "Director Uday first narrated the story to me four years ago. Prior to that, he sent me a WhatsApp message with a link to his short film Yaakai Thiri, which was well-adapted. He was keen to retain the team from the short film for this project, which I appreciated greatly."
Commenting on the pressing issues around us, she said, "With everything from accidents to wars happening, I often ponder how I can contribute. My answer lies in art. Whatever I can accomplish through this medium, no matter how small, I will pursue. I aim to be responsible in my choices, both in the stories I select and the characters I portray, focusing on socially responsible roles," she added.
Meanwhile, director Uday elaborated on the film's title, revealing that 'Akkenam' is inspired by the Tamil alphabet 'Aayutha Ezhuthu', represented by three dots. He explained that the film centers around three pivotal characters, leading to the title choice.
The film, produced by Arun Pandiyan alongside Saravana Kumar and A K Sekar, is set to release on July 4.
Cinematography is handled by Vignesh Govindarajan, with music by Barath Veeraraghavan. The editing is managed by Devathyan, with co-direction by Bhuvaneshwaran. The film's art direction is by Raja and stunts are choreographed by PC Stunts.
