New Delhi, Oct 28 (NationPress) A wave of nostalgia is about to sweep through as the iconic voice that dominated Bluetooth playlists and MP3 players of every millennial is making a comeback to India. Global Latin superstar Enrique Iglesias is gearing up for a performance in the country after more than a decade, affirming that it has always been his “priority to return.”
Enrique first visited India in 2004 and again in 2012, and now he is set to perform in Mumbai this October.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, Iglesias expressed that “there was no hiatus” and elaborated on why now feels like the perfect moment for his return.
“There was no hiatus; it just takes time between albums and touring in other countries to make it back over there. But it has always been a priority to come back, and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Iglesias shared with IANS.
Discussing India's growing role in the global music scene, the singer, known as the “King of Latin Pop,” reflected on the evolution and expressed his happiness.
“It was bound to happen, and I couldn’t be happier. India has such amazing fans. They have such great respect and appreciation for music. The energy when I perform in India is extraordinary,” said Iglesias, who hails from Madrid, Spain.
Iglesias hinted at a potential collaboration with an Indian artist, stating, “I am always open to ideas, and you never know — it could already be in the making.”
With India's rich musical heritage encompassing classical, folk, indie, and Bollywood, Iglesias was asked if any of these sounds have influenced his creativity. His reply: “I am influenced by everything and anything I hear to some degree…every single day.”
Iglesias acknowledged the significant changes India has undergone in the past 13 years and mentioned his excitement for “the people, and of course, the food,” in addition to his performances on October 29 and 30 in Mumbai, organized by EVA Live.
Since embarking on his musical journey in 1995, Iglesias has released timeless hits like Bailamos, Hero, Escape, Addicted, Rhythm Divine, Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You), I'm a Freak, and Dirty Dancer, which once echoed through Walkmans, crackled on FM radios, and filled the mix CDs of every 1990s kid.
When asked whether he still feels the same thrill stepping onto the stage as he did early in his career, Iglesias, who has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, replied, “Not only that, but I still get nervous before every performance. Those things never seem to change.”
