Mumbai, Aug 11 (NationPress) The latest production from filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, titled Boong, has been honored as the Spotlight Film for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025.

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, a veteran in the industry who previously served as the first assistant director on renowned films such as Luck by Chance, Talaash, PK, and A Suitable Boy by Mira Nair, Boong represents her debut in directing.

Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange expressed excitement about the film’s selection, stating: “We are thrilled to present the world premiere of Boong as this year’s Spotlight Film. It’s a story that is as bold as it is intimate, and Lakshmipriya Devi’s debut is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary talent working behind the scenes in Indian cinema.”

“IFFM has always been committed to championing new voices, and Boong is exactly the kind of story that resonates globally — deeply rooted in its context yet universally human in its emotion.”

The film features Gugun Kipgen and Bala Hijam as the lead characters. It made its world premiere in the Discovery section of the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

The storyline follows Boong and his friend Sanamatum as they embark on a quest to reunite his family, which unfolds as an unexpected gift from his mother.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is scheduled for August 2025, from the 14th to the 24th, showcasing cinematic talents worldwide and providing a premier platform for Indian films to engage with international audiences.

On another note, Farhan is set to appear in the upcoming war drama 120 Bahadur, with a gripping teaser released recently.

In this film, Farhan plays Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, hinting at an inspiring narrative of courage and sacrifice tied to patriotism.

This movie draws inspiration from the Battle of Rezang La in 1962, where the Indian Army's 13th Kumaon Regiment bravely resisted the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). The teaser pays tribute to the valor of 120 Indian soldiers who stood firm with the assertion: “Hum Peechhe Nahin Hatenge! (We will not step back)”.

Major Shaitan Singh, who led the defense, was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor.

Filmed across Ladakh, Rajasthan, and Mumbai, the film aims to authentically recreate the war front, capturing everything from the frozen landscapes to the silence of battle.

120 Bahadur is scheduled to hit theaters on November 21st this year.
