Mumbai, Sep 6 (NationPress) Actress Gargi Kundu, who gained prominence through the Jio Hotstar reality series "Society", has candidly discussed the challenging aspects of the entertainment sector. She revealed that she encountered numerous rejections from filmmakers who assessed her based solely on her appearance rather than her skills.
Gargi confessed that she was even encouraged to undergo cosmetic surgery.
Reflecting on her experiences, she stated, “I was explicitly told that if I underwent ‘proper surgery’, they would consider me for roles. It was disheartening because instead of valuing my performance, they made me feel inadequate according to their standards of beauty.”
Initially, such comments undermined her self-esteem; however, she eventually recognized that talent and determination are the true keys to success.
“I questioned whether my aspirations were legitimate, as every meeting concluded with remarks about my physical appearance. But over time, I came to understand that skill and diligence outweigh superficial alterations,” she mentioned.
Highlighting the necessity for the industry to evolve beyond its restrictive beauty norms, Gargi asserted, “Cinema should honor uniqueness. If all actors conform to similar looks due to surgeries, where does that leave originality and relatability?”
Gargi is resolved to forge her own path in the industry and motivate others facing similar challenges.
“I refuse to give up. I aim to inspire those who encounter such judgments to have faith in themselves and not allow others to dictate their appearance,” she concluded.
Gargi made her mark in reality television with "Society", featuring 25 contestants competing in a tiered structure—Royals, Regulars, and Rags—taking on daily challenges for the title of “Asli Baazigar.”
