Sandeepa Dhar Discusses Pressure of Beauty Standards and Cosmetic Surgery in Entertainment
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 25 (NationPress) Actress Sandeepa Dhar candidly discussed the unrealistic beauty standards prevalent in the entertainment sector and their influence on actresses considering cosmetic enhancements.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, Sandeepa expressed that these cosmetic procedures have extended beyond just actresses; everyday women, who do not hold public roles, are also choosing to go under the knife to boost their self-confidence regarding their looks.
When asked if actresses experience extra pressure to seem perfect and if beauty standards sometimes lead them towards cosmetic alterations, Sandeepa replied, "It’s not just actresses anymore. Many young women outside the spotlight are now opting for cosmetic procedures. It was once thought that only film stars did this, but it's become quite common today."
She emphasized that many women aspire to feel like the protagonist in their own lives. However, Sandeepa cautioned that following this path can be perilous if it arises from feelings of inadequacy.
"We are setting unrealistic beauty benchmarks that convince individuals they are insufficient. This must change, and it will only happen if our close circles—friends and family—support us in loving ourselves as we are," she elaborated.
In conclusion, Sandeepa highlighted that comparison is truly a joy thief. "You can never find happiness if you are perpetually evaluating your life against someone else's," she stated.
On the professional front, Sandeepa recently appeared alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur in the film Do Deewane Seher Mein.
Explaining her decision to join the project, Sandeepa remarked, "There were several reasons for my involvement. Firstly, it was the storyline. After a long time, someone is presenting a delightful love story that deviates from the norm. It revolves around two flawed characters as they gradually learn to embrace their imperfections and accept each other. That felt refreshing. There are very few narratives where both the hero and heroine acknowledge their flaws and still choose to love one another."
"Secondly, my character, Naina, appears perfect at first glance, with a seemingly flawless life. However, she is actually lonely and emotionally troubled. The film delves deeply into her journey. Portraying that contrast—exuding perfection outwardly while harboring inner turmoil—was both a challenge and an exhilarating experience for me as an actor," she added.
