Mumbai, Nov 23 (NationPress) The Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor, who recently participated in the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, expresses her belief that Indian cinema ought to embrace more rooted narratives.
According to her, the more authentic a story is, the higher the chances of it resonating with a global audience. She commended India’s official Oscar submission, ‘Homebound’, and discussed its impending release.
In her comments to IANS, she stated, “‘Homebound’ needed to be launched promptly due to the cutoff regulations for films returning from festivals. The timing of releases requires careful consideration. With a submission deadline in September, the film was released at the last possible moment. However, I won’t comment on its box office performance as I believe it will thrive once audiences experience it. ‘Homebound’ is an exceptional film; it was showcased at Cannes and Toronto, and Martin Scorsese is presenting it. Supported by one of India's top studios and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, it truly deserves all the accolades.
She further added, “I believe films like ‘Kantara’ and ‘Manjummel Boys’ are excellent examples of deeply rooted narratives that could also find success internationally. They possess the potential to break barriers and achieve remarkable success beyond India. However, in the Hindi film industry, we need to create more authentic content.”
The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is currently taking place in Goa, showcasing an impressive array of over 240 films from 81 countries, including 13 world premieres and international and Asian debuts. This year's opening will defy tradition with a spectacular parade along the Mandovi River.
