Mumbai, Sep 6 (NationPress) Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is back in Toronto as his series, "Gandhi", made its debut at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025.
This latest journey to TIFF has stirred up cherished memories from his earlier visits to the renowned festival.
Mehta shared that his inaugural visit to TIFF was in 2012 with his film, "Shahid", featuring Rajkummar Rao. He revisited the festival in 2016 with "Omertà".
Reflecting on his past, Mehta expressed on social media, "2012 was my first TIFF with Shahid. That trip transformed my life. It gave me a voice, a place on the world stage. In 2016 I returned with Omertà, a film that will always hold a special place in my heart, even if it never got the recognition it deserved."
The director recounted that when he visited Toronto with his son Jai, they struggled to afford a decent meal.
"I still recall that first visit with Jai when we could hardly afford a proper meal. Another year, Rajkummar and I were here for less than 24 hours," Mehta revealed.
This year feels distinct for Mehta as he is at TIFF with the "Gandhi" team, including lead actor Pratik Gandhi and the musical genius A. R. Rahman.
"This time is special. I’m here with the most personal work of my life surrounded by many who made it possible. For those who couldn’t join us here - we carry your love, joy, and passion for Gandhi with us to this amazing festival," he shared.
Expressing his thankfulness for this new chapter, Mehta concluded, "Toronto is a city that loves film, and TIFF is one of the most dynamic festivals globally. Celebrating your work here with your peers is a rare privilege. It feels like a new journey, but also one that has been a long, beautiful time in the making. Forever Grateful."
