Hiphop Tamizha Adhi — actor, director and music composer — says his upcoming Tamil film 'Meesaya Murukku 2' is far more than a sequel. Speaking at a pre-release event in Chennai on 19 September 2026, Adhi described the film as a universal celebration of musicians' lives, struggles and dreams, set for a worldwide theatrical release on 25 September 2026.

How the Sequel Differs from the Original

Adhi, who has both directed the film and plays the lead role, drew a clear line between the two instalments. 'Meesaya Murukku' (2017) was a semi-autobiographical story rooted in his own life, but the second part is designed to resonate beyond personal biography. "'Meesaya Murukku' was a biopic based on my own life. But 'Meesaya Murukku 2' is a much broader and more universal story. It is a global story about music, musicians and the lives they lead. It explores the dreams, struggles, journeys and emotions of people who choose music as their way of life," Adhi said at the event.

Their stories and the world they come from are an important part of this film." Baba Bhaskar Steps into a Key Father Role

In the original film, the late comedian and actor Vivek played Adhi's father — a performance Adhi called irreplaceable. For the sequel, which moves across multiple time periods, choreographer and performer Baba Bhaskar has been cast in a pivotal father character. Adhi acknowledged that Bhaskar was initially hesitant. "He was slightly hesitant initially, but he trusted me and went ahead with the role. He has performed extremely well. I genuinely believe that after this film, he will earn a significant place in Tamil cinema as an actor," Adhi said, offering an unusually direct endorsement of a co-performer at a promotional event.

The tribute to the late Vivek, who passed away in 2021, underscores the emotional continuity the team is attempting between the two films despite the recasting necessity.
