Kala Hiran producer Amit Jani threatens Govind Namdeo with legal action
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Producer Amit Jani, who has financed the upcoming film 'Kala Hiran' — based on the blackbuck poaching case involving Bollywood superstar Salman Khan — has announced legal proceedings against actor Govind Namdeo, accusing him of making misleading public statements about the production. The dispute came to a head on Sunday, 14 June, after the film's teaser was released.
What Sparked the Dispute
Following the teaser's unveiling, Govind Namdeo reportedly gave media interviews claiming he had been misled by the makers about the film's subject matter, stating he was unaware of the script's content. Namdeo also reportedly said he could not be seen opposing Salman Khan, whom he described as a personal friend, and alleged he was cheated by the production house.
Jani dismissed these claims as baseless, arguing that no actor of Namdeo's stature could have participated in a multi-day shoot without reading a script.
Producer's Rebuttal on X
Amit Jani took to his X (formerly Twitter) account and shared a video directly addressing the actor. In the video, Jani said: 'Govind Namdeo is making statements in the big media, giving interviews, saying that the makers made a fool of him, the production house made a fool of him, he was cheated, we didn't tell him what the script was. This film is based on the killing of Kala Hiran, which took place in 1998, on October 2. He is like, I am a friend of Salman Khan, I can never go against him, I was cheated. What is all this? The backbone of an actor is so weak that he is trying to lick the dust off the shoes of a superstar.'
Jani further noted that scenes covering 20 years of court proceedings — from 1998 to 2018 — were filmed over 3 to 4 days continuously, with detailed script elements including forensic evidence such as blood in a vehicle and deer hair found on a car tyre, as well as a disputed post-mortem report that was subsequently redone.
Contract Violation Alleged
Jani alleged that Namdeo had not only signed an agreement for 'Kala Hiran' but also for a planned second part of the film. He contended that the actor's public statements constitute a violation of those agreements. Jani said Namdeo's remarks appeared motivated by a desire to remain in Salman Khan's good graces after the teaser was made public.
Legal Action and Next Steps
Jani issued a direct warning: 'We are going to take legal action against you, Mr. Govind Namdev, and you will have to answer in the court of Noida because of what you have done with the production house. Be ready for legal action.' The case, if filed, would be heard by a court in Noida. Govind Namdeo had not issued a formal response to the legal threat at the time of publication. The film centres on the blackbuck poaching case litigated in the courts of Jodhpur over two decades.
