Chennai, July 11 (NationPress) Kannada actor Dhruva Sarja highlighted on Saturday that all Tamil films have been released in Karnataka, except for Kamal Haasan's 'Thug Life,' which was halted due to a statement that offended local sentiments.
While present in Chennai for the teaser launch of his film KD The Devil, Dhruva Sarja addressed media inquiries.
The actor noted that Kannada films face no issues in Tamil Nadu, yet 'Thug Life' faced a ban in Karnataka despite having released successfully in other regions.
In response to inquiries, Dhruva Sarja explained that the controversy stemmed from a remark by Kamal Haasan that upset audiences in Karnataka, leading to the film's prohibition.
He remarked, "Many Tamil films have been released in Karnataka long before my time, and none faced opposition. In this case, a comment from Kamal Haasan caused offense. I want to be clear about this situation."
He added, "Everyone cherishes their mother tongue, and we hold ours dear as well. When it comes to language, reactions are natural. Aside from that one film, all other Tamil films have had successful releases here. Our Kannada audience is supportive, but they will stand up for their pride and language."
Director Prem commented, "Films typically release without issue in Karnataka. We are merely 300 km apart and share a cultural bond. The hurt stemmed from comments about our language. It was never a ban on Tamil films; it was just a call for Kamal Haasan to apologize for his remarks. We are united, and we all enjoy Tamil cinema."
