Actor Karthi has revealed that his upcoming spy thriller 'Sardar 2', directed by P S Mithran and set to release worldwide on 10 September, carries a hard-hitting message about public health — one he believes audiences will find impossible to dismiss. Speaking at the film's audio and trailer launch in Chennai, Karthi said the film confronts a truth about everyday habits that viewers will not be able to walk away from.

'You might have continued the practice of drinking water from plastic water bottles, but after watching this film, you won't be able to ignore the point it looks to make,' Karthi said. 'That is because we've spoken about a truth that pertains to your health and that issue is bound to leave you shaken.'

He also praised director Mithran's sincerity in developing the subject, adding that he hoped the film would reach the widest possible audience. 'Fans are also ready to see such films,' he said, expressing confidence in its reception.

The Prequel Connection and Mithran's Signature Style

Director P S Mithran established a pattern with the original 'Sardar' — the prequel to this film — which centred on the commercialisation of water and went on to become a major box-office success. 'Sardar 2' extends that socially conscious framework, this time zeroing in on issues of health and hygiene, reportedly including the risks associated with microplastics in packaged drinking water.

Notably, Mithran has made issue-driven genre cinema his calling card, weaving public-interest themes into mainstream spy thrillers — a combination that resonated strongly with Tamil audiences in the first instalment.

Star-Studded Trailer Launch

The trailer launch drew prominent names from Tamil cinema, including actor Suriya — Karthi's elder brother — who attended and extended his wishes to the team. The event underscored the high expectations surrounding the sequel.

Principal photography for 'Sardar 2' wrapped in Bangkok in June 2025, with actress Malavika Mohanan having confirmed the schedule during a fan interaction in May 2025. On the technical front, the film features cinematography by George Williams, music by Sam C S, editing by Vijay Velukutty, and art direction by MSP Madhavan and B. Sekar. The screenplay is credited to Rathna Kumar, Aashameera Aiyappan, and Vignesh Muniyand, while stunts have been choreographed by Dhilip Subbarayan and Chethan D'Souza.
