Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 1 (NationPress) The Kerala government is pioneering a groundbreaking initiative to develop a policy tailored for the Malayalam film industry, marking a first in the nation. This endeavor will take shape during a two-day conclave set to occur in the state's capital.
State Minister of Films and Culture Saji Cherian has committed significant effort towards creating a robust film policy, which he describes as revolutionary.
In an interview with IANS, Minister Cherian shared that he has been diligently working on this project and will helm the Film Conclave starting Saturday.
“All prominent figures in the Malayalam film sector will be in attendance, representing various film organizations. Moreover, we will welcome guests from national film associations and 10 representatives from World Cinema,” stated Cherian.
“The primary objective of this conclave is to draft a comprehensive film policy for Kerala, which will serve as a model for others to emulate,” Cherian added.
The event will span two days and feature nine sessions focused on discussions, with Cherian optimistic that a new film policy will emerge by its conclusion.
“Just as Kerala has an Industrial Policy, those in the film sector are advocating for a Kerala Film Policy,” he noted.
“Currently, there is minimal coordination among various governmental departments. Filmmakers face challenges navigating through multiple state offices to initiate projects. One of our goals is to establish a single-window system to simplify film production,” Cherian elaborated.
“Other topics for discussion will include the tax framework, electricity regulations, and scouting for new shooting locations. We aim to ensure fair compensation for all contributors involved in film production, obtain necessary approvals, and promote Kerala's stunning natural beauty to attract nationwide film projects. To achieve this, we will identify new filming sites and guarantee adequate infrastructure at all locations, compiling a comprehensive directory of all potential venues for publication,” Cherian added.
Notable participants in the conclave include Mohanlal, Suhasini, Priyadarshan, Maneka Suresh, and many other prominent figures in the film industry.
The Kerala Film Policy Conclave aims to bring together over 500 delegates from around the world, featuring nine plenary sessions that will cover every facet of the film industry.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the conclave at the Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall within the Legislative Assembly complex in Thiruvananthapuram on August 2.
