Thiruvananthapuram, April 10 (NationPress) Within the next six months, a new application developed by Digital University Kerala will be available, enabling movie enthusiasts across the state to purchase tickets for any theatre in Kerala.

According to State Minister for Youth Affairs and Culture, Saji Cherian, this initiative aims to enhance various aspects of the Malayalam film sector, particularly in terms of the revenue generated for the Kerala government through online ticket sales.

“Initially, we consulted several companies to create an app tailored to our needs, but the estimates we received were beyond the budget of the state government,” stated Minister Cherian.

“At that juncture, Digital University Kerala presented a proposal that was financially feasible, prompting us to proceed with their plan,” he added.

“We have already made an advance payment to Digital University Kerala, and they assured us that the application will be launched in six months, significantly benefiting the Kerala government by ensuring accurate tax collection from online movie ticket sales,” Minister Cherian noted.

Through this new application, Minister Cherian anticipates improved transparency in the ticketing process, helping to curb tax evasion, as the Local Self Government Department collects entertainment tax from ticket sales, while the Kerala Cultural Welfare Board receives the ticket cess.

Currently, concerns regarding accountability linger with existing mobile applications offering e-ticketing services, raising questions about whether the state government can fully realize its financial entitlements.

Minister Cherian emphasized that this concept has been discussed for some time, and the project received budgetary allocation, allowing for the advance payment to Digital University Kerala.
