Mumbai, Oct 16 (NationPress) Filmmaker Kiran Rao is elated with her directorial venture ‘Laapataa Ladies’ winning 13 Filmfare Awards. She has revealed the essential logistics behind her film, along with the carefully chosen landscape that complements its visual essence.
Kiran recently engaged in a discussion with IANS to celebrate her film’s remarkable achievement. She elaborated on the imaginative landscape for the film, stating, “We endeavored to create a fictional state known as Nirmal Pradesh, envisioned to be located in the Bundelkhand region, nestled between UP, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. From my observations, there were numerous areas akin to the Gangetic plains, which appeared exceptionally lush.”
She went on to explain the production's choice of an arid landscape that remains vibrant and full of life, rather than desolate. “As we approached the central India region, the environment became drier. Ultimately, we recognized that the topography could represent any of these states. In crafting our own state, we aimed for something unconventional—not overly tropical, not excessively dry as seen in Chambal or Rajasthan,” she noted.
“Thus, we opted for a middle-ground aesthetic, resulting in a film with a drier visual texture, largely because we found our locations around Bhopal, which mirrored the landscape we envisioned,” she added.
Presented by Jio Studios, 'Laapataa Ladies' is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande, under the banners of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions.
