New Delhi, Oct 16 (NationPress) Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is preparing for a noteworthy milestone with the inaugural flight of the Tejas Mk1A fighter jet from its Nashik facility on October 17. However, it is important to note that the Indian Air Force (IAF) will not receive the Tejas Mk1A delivery.

As per HAL's official invitation, the event will be graced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at HAL's manufacturing division in Nashik, Maharashtra.

This event will also signify the launch of HAL's third production line dedicated to the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

Despite the anticipation surrounding the maiden flight of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A, delays in the delivery of jets to the IAF continue to be a challenge.

Originally scheduled for induction last year, the Mk1A program has encountered ongoing setbacks, primarily due to disruptions in the supply of GE F404 engines from the United States.

Earlier this month, during a press conference, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh expressed, "We are eagerly waiting for the LCA Mk1A — it’s like we are waiting with hungry mouths for food."

The cutting-edge Tejas Mk-1A is an enhanced variant of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and is set to replace the recently retired MiG-21 fleet.

The IAF phased out the MiG-21s on September 26 after over six decades of service.

The Tejas Mk-1A boasts advanced avionics, a state-of-the-art radar system, improved weaponry, and a sophisticated electronic warfare suite. With a maximum speed exceeding 2,200 km/h, it is designed for superior combat performance and operational versatility.

Last month, on September 25, the Ministry of Defence entered into a Rs 62,370 crore agreement with HAL for the delivery of 97 Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets — comprising 68 single-seater and 29 twin-seater trainer variants. This deal is anticipated to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the IAF.

HAL representatives have stated that production of the LCA Mk-1A is accelerating. The company has recently acquired four GE-404 jet engines from General Electric, with a total of 12 expected by the end of this fiscal year. These engines will be utilized in the first batch of aircraft.
