New Delhi, May 30 (NationPress) The inaugural assembly of the centre fuselage for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A was officially delivered to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) by M/s VEM Technologies in Hyderabad on Friday.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has declared that this marks the first occasion a significant sub-assembly for the LCA Tejas has been entrusted to a private Indian entity.
The MoD perceives this event as a notable enhancement to India’s self-sufficient defence manufacturing capabilities.
As per the Ministry of Defence, the LCA Tejas Division has already received various structural modules, including air intake assemblies, rear fuselage assemblies, loom assemblies, as well as fin and rudder assemblies in the Mk1A configuration.
HAL intends to broaden this outsourcing model for upcoming projects, thereby strengthening its in-house capacity by leveraging the expertise of the Indian industry.
During the event of receiving the first centre fuselage assembly for the LCA Tejas Mk1A, Secretary (Defence Production), Sanjeev Kumar, praised the collaboration between HAL and VEM Technologies for expediting the production of LCA Mk1A.
He noted a remarkable growth in defence production at approximately 10 percent annually, along with an increase in defence exports.
“This achievement would not have been feasible without the backing of industries and public sector units like HAL. The security and sovereignty of our nation are paramount, and cannot be realized without indigenous manufacturing and the supply of spare parts tailored to meet the Armed Forces' needs,” he added.
The handover took place in the presence of Secretary (Defence Production) Sanjeev Kumar and Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of HAL, D.K. Sunil.

CMD, HAL, acknowledged the swift advancement of Tier 1 and MSME suppliers in the production of the LCA Tejas.
