Mumbai, Aug 1 (NationPress) Filmmaker Kussh S Sinha has addressed his position regarding the limited screen exposure of his directorial debut, Nikita Roy, which is currently overshadowed by the buzz surrounding Saiyaara.
In response to media speculation attributing the restricted theatrical release of Nikita Roy to the success of Saiyaara, Kussh released a statement to clarify the situation. He stated, "Some recent media headlines have unfortunately conveyed inaccurate information, which could lead to a misunderstanding. To clarify: I have congratulated YRF and the Team Saiyaara on their success, and I firmly believe that every successful film contributes positively to the industry."
"Let's continue supporting Indian cinema, which is playing a vital role in bringing audiences back to theatres."
Kussh's brother Luv Sinha previously mentioned that the supernatural thriller Nikita Roy faced limited screenings due to "unforeseen circumstances." While specifics were not disclosed, it has been widely reported that Saiyaara, featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, was a contributing factor.
Luv commented, "Nikita Roy is a fantastic thriller that showcases Kussh's unwavering commitment to storytelling and original concepts. Despite being such a powerful and original story, it has got limited screens due to unforeseen circumstances." He added, "Cinema enthusiasts should watch a film that is genuinely different and support creative filmmakers and producers who tell original stories."
According to media reports, Kussh Sinha suggested that the box office challenges faced by Nikita Roy are partly due to the overwhelming success of Saiyaara. He noted that while efforts were made to secure more screens, some films naturally ride a strong wave of momentum. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that several theater chains recognized the value of Nikita Roy and opted to keep it in their listings.
Nikita Roy, starring Sonakshi Sinha alongside Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal, and Suhail Nayyar, was released in theaters on July 18th.
