Did Lady Gaga Condemn ICE During Her Tokyo Concert?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Jan 29 (NationPress) Pop icon Lady Gaga has taken a stand against ICE during her concert at the Mayhem Ball in Tokyo, Japan.
During her emotive address at the latest show, Lady Gaga is concluding a five-night stint at the Tokyo Dome on January 30, as reported by Variety.
She stated, “I want to take a moment to address something that’s profoundly significant to me. It’s crucial for individuals globally, especially in America at this moment.”
She added, “In a few days, I will be returning home and my heart aches for the individuals, the children, the families across America who are being ruthlessly pursued by ICE. I am deeply concerned about their suffering and how their lives are being shattered before our eyes.”
According to Variety, she is the latest celebrity to voice opposition to ICE, joining the ranks of stars like Mark Ruffalo, Olivia Wilde, and Wanda Sykes, who have recently denounced the agency at events like the Golden Globes and the Sundance Film Festival.
In her speech, Gaga referenced the tragic shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is scheduled to perform in St. Paul in April.
“I am also thinking about Minnesota and everyone back home who is engulfed in fear and seeking answers. When entire communities lose their sense of security and belonging, it fractures something within all of us. I hope you will unite with us this evening. Although we are not in America, we stand with our community and we love you,” she expressed.
She dedicated her song ‘Come to Mama’ from her fourth studio album ‘Joanne’ to “everyone who is enduring hardship, to those feeling isolated and helpless, and to anyone mourning a loved one while struggling to see light at the end of the tunnel.”
She continued, “We must return to a state of safety, peace, and accountability. Good individuals should not have to fight relentlessly and jeopardize their lives for dignity and respect, and I hope, I truly hope our leaders are heeding this call.”
“I hope you’re receptive to our plea for a swift change in your actions and compassion for everyone in our nation,” she concluded.
