Lisa shared a video compilation on Instagram showcasing the message, “This is me in menopause” and “Menopause does not have a face”.
In her caption, she discussed the stigma surrounding menopause, both natural and disease-induced. She expressed, “This is me in Menopause. Menopause does not have one face. This is my story of chemo-induced menopause. I went into premature chemo-induced menopause at 37, and at that time, it was the least of my worries.”
Lisa continued, “I had a blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma to contend with. The fact that I went public also kept me busy during that time. But after recovering, I was able to focus on what it meant to experience menopause suddenly at 37, and I had no one to confide in. I have been navigating this unspoken journey for years now.”
She emphasized, “Both menopause and disease-induced menopause have been treated with shame and silence for far too long. Maybe that’s why I’m speaking out now at 53, embracing the authenticity that comes with this age.”
Lisa made her acting debut in 1994 in the film Hanste Khelte. Throughout her career, she has taken on issue-driven roles, notably in the 2005 Oscar-nominated Canadian film Water and the award-winning South African feature The World Unseen.
