Reality television is heading to Netflix with a high-stakes twist: Ram Kapoor, Shivangi Joshi, and Pamala Serena — the breakout star of Desi Bling — have been confirmed as inmates on 'Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa', the upcoming captive reality show premiering exclusively on Netflix on 27 June. The show, co-produced by Balaji Telefilms Ltd and Colosceum, promises to strip away the comfort of conventional reality formats in favour of a pressure-cooker social experiment.

Inside the Lock Upp Universe

The show will confine fourteen inmates inside a single lock-up for six weeks, overseen by two jailers. Contestants must complete tasks to earn in-game currency — the only means of accessing basic necessities such as food, supplies, and privileges. The format is designed to manufacture conflict and revelation in equal measure, with no outside contact permitted.

Veteran actor Riteish Deshmukh and filmmaker Farah Khan will take charge as the show's jailers, adding a layer of celebrity authority to the proceedings.

What the Producers Said

Producer Ektaa Kapoor, whose Balaji Telefilms is co-producing the show, described it as unlike anything she has created before. 'Over the years, I have created many television shows, but Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa occupies a space of its own. It strips away the filters and comforts, placing people in an environment where every decision, every relationship, and every secret has consequences. There's nowhere to hide when you're cut off from the outside world,' she said.

Kapoor added that the Netflix platform opens up new creative possibilities: 'This isn't just another reality show; it's a social experiment packed with entertainment, drama, and surprises at every turn. Bringing the show to Netflix opens up exciting new possibilities, allowing us to reimagine the experience on a much larger canvas.'

Netflix's Bet on Captive Reality

Monika Shergill, Vice President – Content, Netflix India, explained the streamer's enthusiasm for the genre. 'Captive reality is a genre we've been excited about for some time now because it taps into something universally fascinating — people. How they form relationships, build alliances, handle conflict, reveal their vulnerabilities, and make choices when the pressure is on,' she said.

Shergill noted that Lock Upp stood out during the platform's category exploration: 'Lock Upp had everything we were looking for — high stakes, compelling personalities, real emotions, and a format that has built a passionate fan following.'

When and Where to Watch

'Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa' streams exclusively on Netflix from 27 June, with new episodes every Saturday to Wednesday at 8:00 PM. A grand premiere event is scheduled ahead of the launch. The show's arrival on Netflix marks a notable shift for the format, which previously aired on a different streaming platform, now reaching a significantly larger global audience.
