Mumbai, Feb 12 (NationPress) The creators of Sanam Teri Kasam have explained their reasoning for casting Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane in the lead role.

In a special interview with IANS, directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru clarified that their decision was based solely on Hocane's talent to embody the character of Saru, rather than her nationality. The filmmakers emphasized that their casting process prioritized finding the most suitable talent for the role, and Mawra's performance and fit for the character made her an ideal selection.

The romantic drama, which also stars Harshvardhan Rane, was re-released in theaters on February 7 and reportedly grossed Rs 4.25 crore on its opening day (Friday), followed by a notable increase to Rs 5.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 6 crore on Sunday.

Written and directed by Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao, Sanam Teri Kasam is produced by Deepak Mukut with music composed by Himesh Reshammiya. Sapru noted that while crafting the narrative, they envisioned it as a love story intertwined with a curse. He highlighted that a film can only thrive if it forges a profound emotional bond with its viewers.

“Many questioned whether modern youth, influenced by Western culture, would resonate with such a story. However, we were confident from the outset that our film was grounded in Indian values, traditions, and deep emotions. Love stories typically explore class disparities—where a wealthy parent disapproves of a less affluent suitor, or deals with religious or parental opposition. But when Radhika and I began to write this film, we drew inspiration from Shiv Puran to craft something profoundly significant. That’s what allowed it to stand out and endure through time,” he shared.

Regarding the film’s re-release, the directors expressed, “We are incredibly excited to witness one of our beloved films, Sanam Teri Kasam, make a historic comeback to the box office. This journey has been extraordinary, and we are sincerely thankful to everyone who has supported the film. I genuinely believe the movie has finally gained the recognition it truly deserves.”
