Chandigarh, Oct 10 (NationPress) Punjab is poised to be the pioneering state to introduce a comprehensive citizen portal, designed as a single-window solution that offers access to an extensive array of government services spanning multiple departments, as stated by state Minister of Good Governance and Information Technology Aman Arora on Friday.
He revealed that the Department of Good Governance and Information Technology (DGGIT) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) valued at Rs 13 crore with a company for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of this innovative citizen portal.
The launch of the portal is anticipated within six months, aiming to maximize accessibility, efficiency, and accountability in the provision of government services. It will be available through web interfaces, mobile applications, Sewa Kendras, and WhatsApp, effectively bringing governance to the fingertips of citizens.
Arora emphasized that the portal will serve as a singular, unified digital entry point for all government services, addressing the diverse needs of citizens throughout their lives.
A significant feature is the automatic retrieval of documents, removing the necessity for repeated submissions. Once a citizen uploads documents for any service, they will be automatically available for future applications.
This functionality is set to streamline services and enhance the overall citizen experience.
The minister mentioned that the integrated citizen portal will provide a one-stop solution for all government services, negating the need to navigate multiple websites.
With the implementation of AI-driven workflow systems, it promises quicker decision-making and reduced timelines for service delivery, making governance more focused on the citizen.
According to Arora, this initiative is on track to transform digital governance by transitioning approximately 600 offline services to online platforms.
With 848 services recognized under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Service Act 2018, and 236 services already operational on the connect portal, this initiative is projected to assist around one crore applicants annually.
Citizens will be able to conveniently access government services from their homes, eliminating the necessity of visiting government offices.
