Mithun Chakraborty Prioritizes Excellence Over Politics
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 1 (NationPress) Iconic actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty has made a striking declaration, emphasizing that he lacks any political aspirations.
The recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award shared his thoughts with IANS in Kolkata, elaborating on his reasons for not participating in elections or seeking the position of Chief Minister of West Bengal.
He expressed that his priority lies in appreciating the blessings life has bestowed upon him, including esteemed accolades like the Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He reminisced about his journey from humble beginnings and conveyed heartfelt gratitude instead of political ambition.
During the interview, the veteran actor stated, “I do not possess any political ambition. I find it challenging to manage all that God has provided me so far, like the 2nd biggest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is India’s highest cinema honor. I am overwhelmed by the opportunities given to a poor kid like me who started from the streets.”
He added, “I don’t engage in conflicts because if I do, I will confine myself to one location. I prefer to remain unrestricted. Once I commit to a place, I tend to stay there. However, I won’t venture elsewhere. I will go there, campaign, and immerse myself in that environment. That is my approach. Others can compete elsewhere; let them prevail. Ultimately, the party will make the decision.”
As a political personality, Mithun has traversed the entire political spectrum from left to right. He was reportedly involved in the Naxalbari movement in his youth but distanced himself after facing a family crisis. He later graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), achieved superstardom, and made a foray into politics with notable success. Mithun initially joined the TMC, a center-left party, and is currently associated with the BJP, a right-wing party.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in West Bengal are set to occur on April 23 and April 29, 2026, aimed at electing all 294 members of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
