Mohit Chauhan Describes 'Jhoomelo' as a Salute to the Garhwali and Kumaoni Languages

Mumbai, Dec 6 (NationPress) Playback singer Mohit Chauhan, recognized for his iconic songs like 'Sadda Haq', 'Tum Se Hi', 'Tum Ho', 'Matargashti', and more, has shared that his latest single 'Jhoomelo' serves as a tribute to the Garhwali and Kumaoni languages.
'Jhoomelo' wrapped up the inaugural season of the folk music series 'Maati'. This Pahadi track harmonizes the allure of traditional folk music with an Afro-Latin soundscape, providing a modern and global aesthetic.
In discussing the track, the singer remarked, 'Jhoomelo' is upbeat and cheerful. Raghav and Arjun have done an incredible job, and it was a delight to collaborate with them for Maati. Folk music deserves a contemporary presentation that maintains its essence, utilizing current tools. I hope the audience enjoys it.
The composition is the work of Raghav and Arjun, with lyrics contributed by Deepak Ramola. Mohit also appears in the music video, continuing his foray into on-screen appearances following the Diljit Dosanjh film 'Amar Singh Chamkila'.
Regarding his role in the music video, Mohit stated, 'I've felt at ease in front of the camera since Dooba Dooba in 1998. For 'Jhoomelo', it was simply me singing into the mic, just like performing live, which I genuinely adore. Whether in front of an audience of 500 or lakhs, the thrill of performing live is unparalleled.'
Composers and vocalists Raghav and Arjun expressed their appreciation, 'We are privileged to have Mohit Chauhan bring this song to life. Jhoomelo is a tribute to the beauty of the Garhwali and Kumaoni languages, merging them with a contemporary Afro-Latin sound. Set against the backdrop of migration in the hills, it narrates a tender story between lovers separated by distance, who dream of reuniting to dance Jhoomelo—a cherished folk dance that reflects the essence of Pahadi life.'
Released through the label of Warner Music India, 'Jhoomelo' is now available for streaming on all major platforms.
