Mumbai, April 26 (NationPress) Renowned actress Moushumi Chatterjee is marking her 77th birthday today, April 26. In honor of this milestone, let us revisit the moment when the classic star discussed the notion of everyone playing roles in their everyday lives.
During a conversation with the esteemed television host Tabassum, Moushumi was posed with the question, "Can a woman excel as both a good wife and a good actress?"
In response, Moushumi expressed her belief that everyone is indeed an actor, often pretending to embrace things they might not enjoy in real life.
She explained, "In my view, an actress can also be a devoted wife, and a good wife can easily portray an actress. I hold the belief that every individual plays a part. For instance, when a woman becomes a wife, she often pretends to enjoy things that may not truly please her, all for the sake of her family's happiness."
Drawing from her personal experience, Moushumi elaborated, "There are times when my husband invites friends over whom I find less than appealing. Yet, I feign enthusiasm and greet them with a smile. Ultimately, an actress is just another woman, sharing the same emotions as others. For example, when preparing meals for our loved ones, we too experience the same anxiety—Will they appreciate the food or not?"
Reflecting on her illustrious career, Moushumi made her acting debut at the youthful age of 19 in Tarun Majumdar’s Bengali film Balika Badhu.
In 1972, she took the leading role in the Hindi film Anuraag, directed by Shakti Samanta.
Following this, she starred in numerous films including Naina alongside Shashi Kapoor, Kachhe Dhaage with Vinod Khanna, Us Paar with Vinod Mehra, Benaam featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Humshakal with Rajesh Khanna, and Roti Kapada Aur Makaan with Manoj Kumar.
In addition to her acting career, Moushumi ventured into politics, running for the 2004 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate for the Indian National Congress. However, in 2019, she transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
