Mumbai, April 22 (NationPress) The streaming powerhouse Netflix unveiled three Indian films during its APAC showcase in Tokyo, featuring Bollywood icons Rajkummar Rao and R. Madhavan at the forefront of the upcoming titles set to debut in 2025.

The presentation underscored the platform's increasing dedication to showcasing diverse Indian narratives that span various languages and genres, as reported by variety.com.

According to Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, head of Netflix India original films, “This year is poised to be our most varied yet.”

“Following the immensely popular ‘Pushpa 2,’ ‘Dragon,’ and ‘Chhaava,’ we have an exhilarating series of major theatrical films launching on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.”

Currently available is “Test,” Netflix’s inaugural Tamil-language original film, a sports drama starring R. Madhavan, Nayanthara, and Siddharth.

Sheikh also highlighted the upcoming release of “Jewel Thief,” characterized as a “high-octane heist-action movie” featuring Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, set to premiere shortly after the showcase.

Three new productions were then introduced.

Aap Jaisa Koi” showcases R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Sheikh in what Sheikh referred to as “a touching romantic drama” situated in Kolkata. Directed by Vivek Soni, this film marks Madhavan’s return to romance, exploring an unexpected bond between a reserved 40-something teacher and a self-assured 30-something French instructor.

Inspector Zende,” starring Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh, draws from actual events.

This film, set in the 1980s and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, follows Madhukar Bapurao Zende, an “ordinary police officer with an extraordinary moral compass,” as he pursues the infamous international criminal Carl Bhojraj.

Also presented was “Toaster,” the latest comedy featuring Rajkummar Rao, marking the debut production from KAMPA Films, the new venture co-founded by Rao and his wife, actress Patralekhaa.

The film portrays Rajkummar as a stingy individual whose fixation on a wedding gift—a toaster—leads to “murder and chaos.” The cast includes Sanya Malhotra, Abhishek Banerjee, Seema Pahwa, and Archana Puran Singh.

In a conversation on stage, Rajkummar shared the story behind KAMPA Films: “We were vacationing in Goa, and a friend from Delhi who is outside the industry asked, ‘Why don’t you produce?’”

He also disclosed his comedic philosophy: “I aim to avoid being overtly funny during comedy, which is a challenging task as one can easily be too greedy… This can ruin the scene, so maintaining control is crucial in comedy.”
