Los Angeles, May 27 (NationPress) A fresh wave of talent is ready to take charge in the series adaptation of the beloved fantasy 'Harry Potter'. The television show has officially cast its trio of lead characters: Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton takes on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley. Over 30,000 aspiring actors tried out for these iconic roles after HBO announced an open casting call last fall, according to reports from 'Variety'.
Filming is set to commence this summer. “After an extensive search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to reveal our trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The remarkable talent of these three actors is truly captivating, and we eagerly anticipate the world experiencing their magic together on screen. We are grateful to all the thousands of children who auditioned; discovering such a wealth of young talent has been a genuine pleasure,” stated showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod.
As reported by 'Variety', the original 'Harry Potter' films catapulted Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint to international stardom in the early 2000s, and this HBO series could potentially do the same for McLaughlin, Stanton, and Stout, who are largely new to the scene.
McLaughlin has a role in 'Grow', an upcoming comedy on Sky featuring Nick Frost and Golda Rosheuvel, while Stanton played Matilda in 'Matilda: The Musical' on the West End from 2023-2024. This role marks Stout's first major acting gig.
They join a talented ensemble that includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
The 'Harry Potter' series is penned and executive produced by Gardiner, who also serves as showrunner. Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes for HBO in partnership with Bronte Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is also executive produced by author J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts from Bronte Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
